Meet The Activewear Brand Fighting Child Labour

Today is World Day Against Child Labour, an issue that has never been more topical as around 260 million children are in employment around the world.
As the textile industry is often considered one of the biggest offenders to this problem, I wanted to shine the light on an activewear brand that I love and who's who's been fighting child labour with its very own charity 'Freedom For Children'... Meet Sports Philosophy.

Stella, as the co-founder of Sports Philosophy, can you tell us a bit more about it?
Sports Philosophy is a luxury ethical activewear brand with a mission to fight child labour. We design beautiful high performance sportswear for men and women, produced in Portugal and using only top of the range fabrics from Italy. Sports Philosophy was born out of my love of sports and a deep desire to start a business with a purpose, one that would bridge the gap between for-profit and non-profit. Then it really involved from taking on child labour, which is a big issue in fashion, and it simply made sense for us to focus on this as part of the garment industry.

How were you inspired to start 'Freedom For Children' and what are you goals with the charity?

Our whole business started with the idea of fighting child labour, so the Freedom for Children Foundation really lies at the core of what we do. Our aim is to raise awareness of child labour, but more importantly find long term solutions to the issue. We have an impact consultancy programme where dedicated individuals travel to various regions, researching and identifying the root causes of child labour, which we then use to inform the projects that we fund and implement.

What does sustainable fashion mean to you?
Sustainable fashion is so broad but personally I believe it is about high quality garments that don't need to be replaced on a regular basis, and classic styles that you can wear across seasons. If the materials used help protect the environment, that is a bonus and is increasingly important given the environmental impact fashion has. But of course, one of the key things for me is the ethical side of fashion - who and what are the conditions of the people producing the fabrics and the garments, no matter what environmental impact your clothes have, they will 100% be impacting the lives of the people creating them.

What is your favourite piece in the collection?
My favourite piece from our Prism Collection is the Magenta Leggings - I wear them all the time. They're pretty bright, but perfect for the summer and I usually pair them with my Black Long Sleeve Prism Top (another favourite, if I'm allowed) so it's not too crazy!

To finish on a lighter note, we used to be workout buddies at F45. Where do you train these days? What are some of your favourite classes in London?
I still love training at UN1T, those classes are crazy hard but I love the team spirit and the awesome trainers there! And otherwise I like to mix things up with some Muay Thai at Gymbox, some running at Barry's Bootcamp and Reformer classes at Frame.
