Donate a #BasketfulOfGood with this year's Reverse Advent Calendar!
With everything looking a little different this year, I'm determined not to let the challenges of 2020 get in the way of La Basketry doing something to give back.
You may know that every year for the last three, I've run a very special reverse advent calendar, where I'll bring one of my biggest baskets along to our Christmas pop-up shop, for you all to help me fill with items for my local homeless shelter.
Of course, I can't do that this year. But that's not stopping me! I'm taking it digital and I want YOU to get involved, too.
What is a reverse advent calendar?
Instead of opening a little door and taking out a chocolate each day, you give an item away each day in support of those who need it.
For me, I choose to support my local homeless shelter, collecting food, hygiene products and clothing.
Why do a reverse advent calendar?
Christmas is a time for giving, sharing and supporting each other, and after this crazy year, we all need that more than ever.
I'm so proud and humbled at the support I receive for La Basketry each and every day, so this is my way of sharing some of that positivity with my local community.
When we all come together we can do brilliant things, so do get involved if you can and let's weave some magic together!
How does a reverse advent calendar work?
To join me on my mission to spread a #BasketfulOfGood this year, you'll need to grab a basket, box or bag that's big enough to fit around 20+ donations in it.
Each day throughout December, starting from today, I'll be encouraging you to add another item (or more!) to your collection, by posting prompts and ideas to my Instagram page.
Who can join the reverse advent calendar?
Anyone can join in. The more, the better! There are so many people that need extra support, especially at this time of year as the cold draws in.
Get your friends and family to join in, nominate people on social media and let's see how far we can go. And more importantly, how many people we can help.
Where can I share my #BasketfulOfGood?
I'll be posting and sharing your baskets, bags and boxes over on La Basketry's Instagram page, so make sure to tag @labasketry and use #BasketfulOfGood to help spread the word!
When you have chosen your charity, make sure to check with them on what they need. I'll be posting ideas to Instagram but it's important to make sure you're collecting items that the shelter actually needs. They'll usually have a donations list on their website.
As it gets closer to Christmas, I will drop off my basket to my local shelter a few days before. Make sure to check with yours for appropriate (and safe) drop off times, and of course, please stick to government guidelines if you're leaving your home!
Will you join a #BasketfulOfGood?
I can't wait to see your collections as the month goes on. Thank you so much for all of your support this year, I couldn't do this without you!
